Twitter Reflection

I have been a Twitter user for a few years now, but I never thought about it as a professional tool.  I used twitter as a way to keep up with my friends and get sports news and updates.  After creating a new twitter handle for my professional use, I was curious how this could be helpful.  Surprisingly, I could not believe the number of teachers (even PE teachers) on twitter.  After only a week, I found myself using my professional twitter more than my personal twitter.  I was getting great ideas left and right.

The people I find most helpful to follow are pegeeks and pecentral.  These are not actual people, but it is one of the twitter handles that I found most useful.  The reason I liked these two handles is because they are posting non-stop about new ideas for PE teachers to try.  They are also re-tweeting great things from other PE teachers out there.

I plan on continuing to use Twitter both professionally and personally.  If I can continue to learn the newest ideas in the PE world, why wouldn't I?  My plan is to keep building my network of followers to further my knowledge of the education world.

Free Technology for Teachers

I enjoyed looking through the Free Technology for Teachers Blog by Richard Byrne. At first glance, I was thinking to myself that I wasn't going to find anything for a PE teacher. After looking longer, there were plenty of things that I found interesting and that would be relevant to a PE teacher.

 For example, I found these...

These types of things could easily be used in my classroom as a PE teacher. Its amazing what you can find if you take the time to search for it.

As far as creating a similar blog for my students, I don't think that is something I will be attempting anytime soon. It sounds like a great idea, but I don't know that I can find the time to do it at this point. Down the road I think it would be a cool idea to create a blog that students could get on each week and I could add new workout techniques or new workout ideas each week. Might be something to consider as I continue to learn more and more about all the technology I can use in the physical education department.
